Saturday, I woke up a little early and wandered through our backyard to do some berry picking!
It doesn’t take very long since our backyard is teeny tiny, but I am not complaining. I got a handful of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. I added these to my Fage Greek yogurt with a handful of chopped walnuts and some Truvia. It was delicious!!
I had some great meetings with clients and got to teach my nutrition class on fats and carbs. I thought it would be fun to include a copy of my handout for you to look at, should you so desire :0) The Truth About Carbs and Fats is in a Word Doc, not a PDF, although I am sure you can open it in either. I would post it on here, but it’s 5 pages long :0)
After work I, the hubs and I got all dressed up and headed to our favorite restaraunt, The Observatory! It’s an awesome little joint in NE Portland that serves amazingly healthy dishes locally grown ingredients.
Tim ordered the fish and chips with yummy squash while I got the chicken salad with some minor modifications. So, the salad comes with chicken, corn, bacon, croutons, tomatoes, snap peas, blue cheese and dressing. That alone would put the salad well into the 800′s for calories!!! So, I asked for the following:
- Walnuts instead of croutons (This way, I would be getting good fats that would help keep me full)
- No cheese (especially blue cheese since it is very caloric)
- No corn (my blood type doesn’t do well with corn)
- A vinagarette on the side
It was soo filling and delicious, I couldn’t even finish it (plus, the corn snuck in, but I ate aorund it). Tim ordered some drinks that I had a few sips of (I had to try a gin and tonic!).
After dinner, we played Rummikub! It’s one of my favorite games!
Tim put up a good fight, but in the end- I dominated.
Afterward we strolled down to Bipartisan which is a little “bipartisan” political coffee shop and also the place where we had our first date on December 11th, 2007!! We got a decaf Americano with steamed soy to share.
Then we wandered around the neighborhood. There were some great flowers blooming!
